New face for the port area of Nice
16 September 2022
After the inscription of the Promenade des Anglais on the Unesco Heritage List, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, wishes to accelerate the renovation projects of the city's emblematic area.
The port area of Nice will therefore be given a makeover. Widening of sidewalks with beautiful terraces for restaurants, planting of a hundred trees, a new garden with a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea...
A project that announces big changes, once again to green the city of Nice and make it eco-responsible. These works will start in 2 years.
Greening the city of Nice
A short time ago, work began on line 2 of the tramway and the creation of a new "Port Lympia" station. A very controversial project, but which today is a real added value for the real estate of the area as well as for its inhabitants.
As for the renovation project of the Nice port district, it will be done in several stages.
The Place Ile de Beauté gets a makeover
The Place Ile de Beauté will be the first step of this big renovation project. Its strategic location in the heart of the city and its architectural and cultural heritage make this square very important for the tourist side, but also for the citizens. That's why it must be renovated in order to be listed as a Unesco heritage site one day.
Several trees and plants will be planted. The goal is to enhance this space by greening it to make it more pleasant for the people of Nice and the tourists.
Rusca and Pacho streets, around the Church of the port, will become pedestrian. An increased demand from local residents and shopkeepers in the area. So the area of the Church of the port will be more attractive and more enriching.
As far as the port is concerned, the reconstruction project of the Mayor of Nice will soon become reality. First of all, he wishes to protect the marine space along the entire coastline from the Baie des Anges to Cap 3000. He wishes to make the port of Nice part of an ecological engagement and eradicate plastic and reduce pollution in the port.
Next, there will be the creation of a new building that will house the "Maison de la Méditerranée". This will be built in the port area by 2025. Its primary function will be to serve associations, schools and companies so that they can benefit from space for conferences or exhibitions.
This will be followed by the requalification of the harbour basin and the reorganization of each space. The reinforcement of the structure of the commercial quay is also a high priority.
