How long does it take to buy a property ?

6 December 2023

Once you have signed the offer to purchase, the notaire will draw up the compromis de vente, which will then be signed within one to two weeks on average.

Once the compromis de vente has been signed, the 10-day cooling-off period begins.

If the property is being purchased with a loan, buyers generally have 10 days after signing the compromis de vente to submit their loan application, and generally have between 1 and 2 months after signing the compromis de vente to obtain the loan.

Finally, the final deed of sale is signed by the notaire on average 3 months after signing the compromis de vente. This may be shorter if the sale does not require a loan.

These timescales may therefore vary, but they are always indicated in the preliminary sales agreement.
